Leather 101: Caring For Your Leather Bag

You purchased a BRöN leather bag, and you like it. End of story? No, that is only the start of your journey with us. Our objective is to handcraft leather bags that will accompany you on your adventures for years to come. That is why we only use premium, full grain bovine leather and high-quality materials in all our products. Once we’ve handed the product over to you, we rely on you to take care of it in a way that keeps it looking newer for longer, enhances its durability, and ensures that it collects life stories with you from home and from the corners of the earth.

The great news is that leather is an incredibly durable material that can last for decades, if taken care of properly. As you might expect, leather will lose its moisture and oils over time. It is completely normal for that to happen as you use your BRöN leather bag. When leather dries out, its fibres can break as opposed to stretch from everyday use. The more frequently you use your bag, the quicker this can happen. Fortunately, you can prevent this by moisturizing your bag regularly and caring for it in the correct way.

Here's how to get the most out of your BRöN leather bag:

Moisturize: To prolong the life of your bag, treat it with a leather care product and try to avoid extreme temperatures. BRöN Leather Care is specially formulated to clean and treat your BRöN leather goods, keeping them newer for longer by restoring their original colour and shine. It also protects your favourite leather items from dirt and dust, keeping them soft and supple. We do not recommend using another leather care product. To the extent you do, always test the product on a small spot of the bag to check whether it will damage or change the colour of the leather.

General Care: To clean your leather bag, use a dry cloth to wipe it down as often as needed and follow it up with a soft, damp cloth and wipe the surface gently. Allow the bag to air dry. Do not expose the bag to direct sunlight in order for it to dry.

Water Damage: Natural leather is not waterproof. As a result, your bag might get damaged if exposed to too much water. But accidents happen. If, on one of your adventures, you’ve spilt water on your bag, do not panic. Absorb as much water as possible with a dry, clean cloth or towel and allow the bag to air dry. Do not use a hairdryer or any external heat source and do not place the bag in the sun.

Scratches: Treating a scratch is difficult and often the scratch can’t be removed. We encourage you to keep your bag away from sharp objects and treat it with care. However, don’t shy away from using your BRöN leather bag as often as you like. As with any genuine leather product, it will acquire scratches and develop a worn-out look over time that enhances its character and serves as evidence of past adventures.

Oil Stains: As soon as possible, use a damp cloth and wipe the product lightly. Allow the product to air dry. Oily marks are extremely difficult remove completely, so make sure to handle your bag with clean hands.

Ink and Cosmetic Spills: We encourage you to keep any pens or cosmetics in a separate container inside your bag. This will avoid nasty stains that will be nearly impossible to remove.
